On the morning of January 9, the world's first 114,000 DWT wind-assisted propulsion LNG dual-fuel tanker "SPA", built by our group’s New Yangzi Shipbuilding customized for Union Maritime Limited (UML) of the United Kingdom, was delivered and departed from the shipyard wharf for operation.
The vessel measures 248.8 meters in length overall, 44 meters in moulded width, design draft of 13.5 meters, scantling draft of 15 meters and design speed of 14.5 knots, which was built in accordance with the rules and regulations of class LR. As the world's first vessel type integrating two cutting-edge technologies—wind-assisted propulsion and LNG dual-fuel power—she is well suited for transoceanic crude oil and refined oil transportation, especially in stable wind routes such as the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, where it performs best while balancing environmental compliance and long-term economic efficiency. This type of vessel is equipped with two C-type deck fuel tanks and two hydraulically controlled, foldable, rotating, high-rigidity three-winged windwings, with an effective height of 37.5 meters and a width of 20 meters. When the windwings are operated effectively, they can save 5-10% of daily fuel consumption and reduce the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) by 12%.
